Make- Up Options

Students can choose from one of the following
Make-up Options below for 2023/2024.

Summer 2024 Make-Up Options include #1, #3 and #5

Not applicable for remote asynchronous & Extreme PE courses.

Make-Up Form

Important Reminders

  • Students must complete 9 (50 minute) in-person and remote synchronous classes to pass a course in Quarters 1, 2, 3, 4 and Summer.
  • Students must complete 7 (60 minute) in-person and remote synchronous classes to pass a course during IAP.
  • For courses with less than 11 classes, please view the make- up requirements for your specific course in the syllabus (ie. Sailing, Extreme PE courses)
  • No more than 1 make-up can be completed per day.
  • Virtual Group Exercise classes are not applicable as a make up option.
  • All make-ups must be completed and submitted to the instructor by the last class within the same quarter unless registered for a remote make- up option.
  • Students are eligible to complete 2 make-ups per course, per quarter (not applicable for Extreme PE and Asynchronous courses)
  • Students must be prepared to show MIT ID to make-up instructor.
  • All make-up options are subject to availability and are on a first come, first serve basis.
  • To encourage social distancing, it is recommended to exchange make-up forms via email for both remote and in-person classes.

Note: All classes have a limited capacity so plan ahead. Instructors are not required to allow you to participate if space is not available. It is highly recommended you do not wait until the last week to complete your make ups.

Instructions- Options 1 & 2

  • Students have the option to contact the instructor ahead of time OR come to class as a walk in. Those who registered ahead of time, have first preference
  • Students will email the make-up instructor a request to complete a make-up in their class.
  • The make-up instructor will confirm via email if space is available and provide the zoom link or invite them to the in-person class (whichever is applicable)
  • Students will be required to show the make-up instructor their MIT ID in-person or via zoom.
  • Upon confirmation of space, the student will email the fillable make-up form completed with their information to the make-up instructor.
  • Upon completion of the class, the make-up instructor will email the signed make-up form back to the student so they can email it back to their current instructor for processing.
  • If space is not available, student will need to make another choice and repeat the process.

Instructions- Option 3 & 4

  • Students must register for a specific day and time using the registration link at least 24 hours in advance.  Each make-up class (day/time) has a separate link
  • Registration for the remote make ups are for the first 15 students.  Once the class is full, students will be placed on the wait list and contacted 24 hours in advance of the class.
  • Students will receive Zoom link or location directions 24 hours before the make-up class date.
  • Students who register less than 24 hours before class, will not be eligible to participate.
  • The Hands-only CPR with AED class allows for walk ins.
  • Students will be required to show make-up instructor their MIT ID via Zoom or in-person.
  • Upon completion of the make-up class, the make-up instructor will send a confirmation to the student’s current instructor if they were present or not present.
  • Students should check their Canvas attendance to confirm their attendance was updated.
  • If space is not available, the student will need to make another choice and repeat the process.

Instructions for Option #5

  • Students must go to the Recreation website under Workout: Group Exercise to view class schedule & location
  • Advance registration is required through
  • Only classes offered at 12p (noon) are eligible as a PE&W make-up option.
  • Students must provide the GX instructor with a make-up form for signing and their MIT ID
  • After participating the instructor will hand the student back the form to be submitted to the instructor the make-up was completed for to update attendance.
  • Virtual Group Exercise classes are not an option for make ups.
