Riley Macon

Instructor/Coach

Riley Macon joined the MIT team in 2021 as the Cross Country and Distance Runners Coach and Physical Education & Wellness Instructor. Riley has been a distance runner most of his life and competed in both cross country and track & field in college. He is not only teaching students at MIT but also coaching his wife, Whitney, who is a high-level marathoner. Prior to MIT, Riley earned a BS in Kinesiology from University of Minnesota and MS in Exercise Science from Middle Tennessee State University. He was also an adjunct professor at Middle Tennessee State University and taught a research methods course in the exercise science department as well as beginning weightlifting. Riley enjoys teaching students at MIT because he finds that the students are truly committed tot he class. On top of simply participating in the activity, the students approach PE&W classes from an academic mindset and truly want to learn about the sport and activity.

What do you like to do for recreation?

I run. I run as much and as often as I can.

8. Briefly describe your best vacation or adventure?

My dream vacation would be traveling to the Alps and spending a week trail running and eating good food!

What would your spirit animal be?

My spirit animal is a Golden Retriever. I have lots of energy and I am always smiling!

What is your favorite type of music?

Bluegrass
